My Professional Statement
My father is the main reason I am interested in working in the medical field. My parents had me at a young age, so my father worked really hard to support us. He was working and going to nursing school. I would barely see him throughout the week since he worked during the day and went to night school. He has always had a passion of helping others, he has saved many lives while working as an EMT and being a helping hand when something happened to someone who needed medical attention while we were in public. He had to give up his dream in becoming a nurse to provide for our family, so I would like to be the one who finishes school for him. I saw how he would affect people's lives in a positive way while helping them and it sparked an interest in me. That is when I realized I have that same passion of the medical field. My goal for the next five years is to finish school and find a job in the medical field as a health administrator. So far, school, my volunteer work, and internship has taught me the most about the health field. Some classes that influenced me the most is Sociology and Nutrition, and currently my entry level courses in my MHA. I learned that you have to have patience and be willing to discuss uncomfortable topics with patients and be able to tell them what they do not want to hear. Sociology has taught me which word choice goes with certain types of people to help them feel at ease while discussing these uncomfortable topics. My volunteer work with the psychiatric nurse has taught me the importance of knowing more than one language. The patient only spoke Spanish, so she misunderstood the amount of medication she was supposed to take. I translated for the psychiatric nurse so that the patient would take a safe amount of medication. Because of my experiences and what I have learned I am prepared to what comes next. to
